A prominent local devotee, Pandit Shridhar, organized a Bhandara (community feast) with her divine help. However, a tantric demon named Bhairav Nath attended the feast and, mesmerized by Vaishnavi's powers, tried to capture her. To continue her penance peacefully, the Goddess fled into the mountains, stopping at places like Banganga (to quench her thirst), Charan Paduka, and Ardh Kuwari (where she meditated in a cave for nine months).

When Bhairav Nath finally found her at the holy cave (Bhawan), the Goddess took the terrifying form of Maha Kali and beheaded him. The severed head flew to the adjacent mountain peak. Realizing his grave mistake, a dying Bhairav Nath pleaded for forgiveness.
